Methylene blue x ravnelite
METHYLENE BLUE IS THE NEWEST, HOTTEST NOOTROPIC TO SWEEP THE MARKET! (but not really…)
You’ve probably been hearing this a lot lately through social media channels or your friends. While Methylene Blue has been trending everywhere, it was really discovered in 1876 by a German chemist named Heinrich Caro as an organic dye for use on cotton.
At this moment you may be asking yourself, why the f*ck would I want to ingest a fabric dye from the 1800’s to help my brain health? In the later part of the 1800’s they started to do research on its effects on the human body.
We will stay on track and focus solely on the brain from this point forward, however Methylene Blue has a lot of benefits, aside from what I will be discussing here.
DISCLAIMER! I will always recommend you do your own research. How it will affect YOU.
As humans, all of us are going to experience things in a different manner than the next. This is just the dumbed down version of the science I have researched, as well as my personal experience with taking it.
Let’s begin with the benefits of Methylene Blue.
It is an element that crosses over the blood brain barrier, allowing it to accumulate in the brain. It reduces oxidative stress *Oxidative stress is a state of imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the body's ability to counteract their harmful effects with antioxidants* (information attached in link)
It directly boosts mitochondrial function *Methylene Blue can reroute electrons in the mitochondrial electron transfer chain directly from NADH to cytochrome c, increasing the activity of complex IV and effectively promoting mitochondrial activity while mitigating oxidative stress.* Meaning its an electron cycler, helps “grease the track” allowing electrons to move more freely. *This is taken directly from the National Institute of Health (information attached in link). Mitochondria are the power plants of our body. Not only do mitochondria create energy, they assist in blood clotting, muscle contraction, and also produce the iron compound necessary for red blood cells to transport oxygen through the body. Pretty f*cking important job.
This is why taking Methylene Blue is known to get rid of that pesky brain fog and assist in cognitive function, clarity and performance.
It has been shown to help improve depression-studies show it increases the production of Neuro transmitters such as serotonin. * I will circle back to this , remember serotonin.
Methylene Blue’s Neuro Protective benefits facilitate the degradation and the clearing of tau proteins, characteristic of Alzheimers.
If you’ve made it this far into the read, you may be rushing to get your hands on some, but take a pause.
Let’s discuss its side affects, as well as things you absolutely CAN NOT be taking while trying Methylene Blue.
It CAN be toxic! High levels of methylene blue can cause respiratory issues, nashua, diarrhea, vomiting, cyanosis, tissue necrosis etc. Not that you would be chugging bottles of this stuff, as you’re only supposed to be ingesting a few drops at a time. Remember I spoke about the serotonin? Well, it can cause CNS or Central Nervous System toxicity and Serotonin Syndrome. DO NOT TAKE WHILE ON SSRIs OR ANY OTHER SEROTONIN BOOSTER (information attached in link). Again, please do your research before putting anything in your body just because some clown on the internet said it helped them. Also, when sourcing Methylene blue, ensure it is formaldehyde free! Anytime you’re purchasing something you ingest, find out if its been tested, where they source their products.
Now for my personal experience with Methylene Blue.
You piss blue… Literally..A lot…for a few days even after you stop taking it. Kind of weird seeing for the first time.
Huge boost in energy.
Focus becomes the norm-If you have a big task at hand that day, take it. Your mind feels like its on point, is the best way to describe the entire experience. I had a tough time even trying to put my mind into a dark place.
Overall, I would recommend adding this into your rotation of supplements. Not necessarily something I would take every day, but something I will add in on mornings of big tasks needing to be accomplished that day.
